PostHeaderIcon Take Advantage of Discounts, Sales, and Seasonal Clearance

Why do stores offer discounts, sales, and clearance and make less money? This is a good question. Believe it or not! Stores benefit by offering consumers products that are lower priced even though they are making less profit. This may seem strange, but there are good reasons why stores want you to take advantage of discounts, sales, and seasonal clearance. Read these reasons below to understand why stores want you to save money.

Discounts

There are many reasons why stores offer discounts. They may want to target a particular group of people such as seniors, students, and military professionals. Sometimes, stores want to attract new customers that normally do not shop there. By attracting certain types of customers, stores will benefit by expanding their customer base. In the future, stores will have new customers, which mean more profits. If you are a student, senior, military professional, new customer, or qualify for a discount, you should take advantage of being added to their customer based. After all, the stores will save you money and later, offer new products that cater to your needs.

Sales

Sales happen throughout the year, so stores can get rid of overstocked inventory, overpriced items, or unpopular products. The reason for this is it cost too much money for stores to keep large inventory of products. When you purchase products on sale, you not only help the store clean out their inventory, but you are also saving money. It is a win-win situation. Stores win by getting more room for new merchandise, and you win by paying less. Remember only buy if you plan on using it. Otherwise, you will be wasting money.

Seasonal Clearance

The reason why seasonal clearances exists is because stores what to get rid of out of seasonal products and make room for new seasonal products. You can take advantage of the end of season clearance by saving 40% to 80% off of the original prices. Some great stuff to buy during the end of season clearance are clothes (after the season), holiday candy (after the holidays), Halloween costumes (after Halloween), Christmas merchandise (after Christmas), heaters and snow blowers (in the spring), air conditioners (in the fall). PostHeaderIcon Great Gifts For The Avid Gardener

If there’s a gardener on you list to buy for this holiday season you have quite a bit to choose from. Any gardener would appreciate reference guides or other garden related books. They’ll also appreciate a quality garden tool or a bag to organize and carry them. Add decor to a yard with a garden accent such as a sundial. Allow your friends keep their feet dry in the garden with a pair of clogs.

Pruners are an essential part of the gardener’s tool collection. As a landscape professional, I know the value of well made garden tools. They’re the difference between a pleasurable gardening experience and frustration. Qualities to look for in a pruner are reliable, sturdy construction and a soft grip.

Garden Bag Gift Sets are great way for the avid gardener to organize and carry tools. Since a garden bag carries sharp tools, choose one that is well made and easy to carry. Some garden bags will include some products to add to your collection of tools such as towels and hand rakes.

Garden clogs are wonderful since they provide protection for the gardener’s feet while in the garden. Along with keeping feet dry, a pair of soft clogs are comfortable enough wear all day while working in the garden. Waterproof clogs are also easy to clean up.

Garden benches can transform someone’s garden or patio into a sanctuary. They’re great as they allow you rest and view the landscape. Choose a bench which will add character to the garden as well as a place to relax. Garden benches can be traditional or modern. Benches made from eco-friendly, weather-resistant wood are long lasting and age beautifully.

Birdbaths are an attractive way to enhance a garden or turn a backyard into a wildlife habitat. Depending on the type, birdbaths can either be hung from a branch of a tree or placed on a stand in the garden. Styles can vary from very simple and modern to ornate and decorative. If the water will freeze in the winter where you live, consider including an ice melting device so the birds have adequate water in the winter.

Sundials are classic garden decor. A decorative one, such as a Butterfly Sundial, is perfect for any garden. Decor such as this gives character to the garden and helps make it unique.

The American Horticultural Society A-Z Encyclopedia of Garden Plants is great for gardeners seeking specific plant information or general gardening advice. It covers 15,000 trees, shrubs, climbers, perennials, annuals, rock plants, bulbs, and succulents. It’s an ideal reference guide for those who want descriptions of popular plant species.

Garden Gloves are essential when pruning roses, raspberries or other thorny shrubs. Look for gloves that provide a balance between dexterity and protection. Leather or canvas usually provide the best protection.

Gardeners are generally easy to please and patient. Any of the gifts listed above are sure to put a smile on their face.

PostHeaderIcon How to Make a Sundial

A few months ago, my friend Lucas and I had to make a video in our 8th grade science class demonstrating how to make a sundial. Our work took several hours in total and was a great success.

It is much harder than it looks, you should try it yourself and post a video response. :)
Sorry that there was no music, we weren’t supposed to put in any.

PostHeaderIcon Before the invention of clocks, how did people meet at a appointed time?

A appointment with the vicar, a appointed meeting of the lords or the king….
You can’t keep looking at the garden sundial clock

Even though clocks had been invented by medieval times, people generally went by the church bells which rang out the seven hours of the day.

"I’ll meet you in the garden at Vespers," could be one assignation to be kept in the early evening.

I’m copying and pasting here:

"Church hours. People told time within the day by several means:

work-related time (in the time it takes me to mow half a field)

the passage of the sun

(rarely) the use of such instruments as water clocks or sun dials or hour candles

Church hours …

A local church or monastery rang out the seven hours of the day

The day began with Matins, usually an hour or two before dawn.

The second of the hours was Prime – daybreak.

The third hour was Terce, set at about 9 a.m.

The fourth hour was Sext (originally midday).

The fifth hour was Nones, set at about 3 in the afternoon, but, between the during the 1200s moved to 12 midday (noon) for unknown reasons (because the monks resented waiting so long for their meal and a break from work?).

The sixth hour was Vespers, normally early evening.

The seventh hour was Compline. Bedtime."
